Community Funds

The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center was founded on the principle of providing our animal companions with compassionate and quality care. To fulfill this mission and better serve our community, AMC has established Community Funds to assist animals whose owners are unable to afford either basic or lifesaving specialty care, as well as rescue animals, guide dogs, and retired police and military dogs.

If you are in need of financial assistance through one of these funds, please visit our Financial Assistance page for more information.

To discuss giving opportunities to any of these funds, please contact the Development Office at (212) 329-8660.

401K-9 Fund

Over a century ago, the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center was founded on the principle of providing companion animals with humane, quality care, and treatment. Abiding by this mission and commitment to serve the community, AMC has established the 401K-9 Fund to provide subsidized general and emergency care for retired canines who worked in law enforcement or in the military, for dogs who serve retired U.S. veterans, and for retired New York City Fire Department dogs.

The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg AMC to the Rescue Fund

The Emma and Georgina Bloomberg AMC to the Rescue Fund was established to provide subsidized specialty care to animals currently cared for by rescue groups, whose health has become an obstacle to their adoption. The Schwarzman Animal Medical Center understands the plight of those who operate rescue groups and the often limited funds available for treatment of animals beyond general care. Therefore, through AMC to the Rescue, we have provided a means for some of these needy animals to receive care.

The Buddy Fund

The Buddy Fund was established in 2006 to provide free or subsidized care for the treatment of cancer in animals, thereby keeping pets healthy and with their families throughout these difficult events. For many, the cost of cancer care can be prohibitively expensive, so this fund seeks to alleviate the financial burden by helping owners provide their pets with the finest veterinary care in the face of a serious illness. This fund always has a great need for funding so please consider making a contribution today.

Charlie’s Patient Assistance Fund: Helping out those in need

The Hugo & Murphy Fund

The Hugo & Murphy Fund was created to provide free and subsidized care in Internal Medicine and/or Dentistry for those in need of financial assistance. Hugo, a Yorkie mix with chronic kidney disease, enjoyed an amazing life because of the incredible internal medicine team at AMC who was able to stay one step ahead of his illness. And Murphy, a dachshund mix rescue with dental and liver issues, enjoyed toys and treats well into her senior years thanks to AMC’s amazing dentistry and internal medicine teams. This Fund is meant to help other animals in need with a chance to beat the odds and live amazing lives.

Established in 2014, this fund helps subsidize the costs of specialty veterinary care for all birds owned by families with limited financial means.

The Monty and Minny Fund

The Monty and Minny Fund, named after two standard poodles treated at AMC, was created to help provide rehabilitation services for pets whose owners can’t afford such care. In cases of surgery, arthritis, obesity, or even neurological issues, non-invasive therapies such as underwater treadmills, electro-hydrotherapy, ultrasound, and a specially designed fitness program can be crucial to recovery. The cost of these treatments can be prohibitive, and the Monty and Minny Fund can provide much needed financial support for recovering animals and their families who qualify.

The Poh Fund

The Poh Fund was established in 2019 to provide palliative treatment for geriatric dogs and cats who are diagnosed with a terminal illness or have a poor prognosis in order to improve the patient’s overall quality of life. The fund is named for “Poh the Dog,” whose owner established the fund to ensure that pets like Poh could benefit from treatments such as acupuncture and rehabilitation at the end of life.
