Community Practice Mission

To provide the highest quality primary veterinary care and to educate our clients with the latest in healthcare and preventative medicine, so they can make educated medical decisions for their pets thus enabling their companions to live longer, happier, and healthier lives.

The veterinarians in the Community Practice Service completed a rigorous post-graduate internship in small animal medicine and surgery at major teaching hospitals to further their training after completion of veterinary school. They worked at busy, multi-doctor, established animal hospitals in New York City before joining the staff at the Animal Medical Center. They are trained in general medicine and surgery and can help address any health concerns you may have about your pet. Our doctors are assisted by experienced NYS-Licensed veterinary technicians who will take care of your pet during their visit, monitor anesthesia and provide nursing care.

If your pet requires the expertise of one of our specialists, the veterinarians in the Community Practice Service can help you set up follow-up appointments and refer you to the appropriate staff doctor and department within our hospital. If your pet requires additional diagnostic testing, our doctors can help you schedule the appropriate tests. Should your pet require hospitalization, we provide 24-hour routine and intensive care (through our critical care service and board-certified criticalists).

• Fecal examination and testing for internal parasites
• Flea and tick control
• Heartworm tests and heartworm prophylaxis
• Microchip placement

• Nutrition and weight management
• Parasite control and prevention
• Puppy and kitten wellness
• Senior wellness
• Vaccinations

Diagnosis & Treatment

• Arthritis management
• Diagnosis and treatment of eye conditions, referral to ophthalmologist if indicated
• Diagnosis and treatment of lumps and growths
• Diagnosis and treatment of skin and ear infections, referral to dermatologist if indicated
• Endocrine diseases (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism, diabetes)
• Management of chronic disease conditions and referral to internal medicine or surgery if indicated
• Management of vomiting and diarrhea, referral to internal medicine if indicated
• Pain management
• Referral to our cardiologists for consultation and necessary testing (echocardiography, EKG)
• Urinalysis and management of urinary tract infections

• Aspiration/cytology of masses
• Pre-anesthetic blood testing
• Rabies Titer testing
• Routine blood work (chemistry panel, complete blood cell count, thyroid level and urinalysis)
